Lesser Nobles
The nobles ran the local manors that were given to them by lords. The nobles owned everything on their land including the peasants, crops, and even the village. Lessor nobles were paid taxes by peasants and these taxes were paid to the lord. The noble's job was to run the town and provide the lord with knights that would protect the lord's family and also serve the king if needed. For the noble's service, they were able to keep their land.
